Welcome to the Practice Managers Association
The Practice Managers Association (PMA) is a UK-wide membership body that provides insight, training, education and interaction opportunities for those involved in General Practice. Its membership comprises Practice Managers, General Practitioners, Practice Business Managers, Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists, Dentists and many other practice staff – all working in partnership. It seeks to facilitate and promote best practice amongst its members.
General practice in 2020 will not look the same as today – and nor should it. The new-look general practice will be able to work at scale, making best use of new technologies. There will be professional development and expansion of the healthcare workforce and improved practice environments. The GP practice will be working as part of a more joined up primary care workforce able devote the greatest amount of time to quality and health improvement for patients and local communities.
The PMA offers education and support to those involved in the business management aspects of general practice. It is free to join and, by doing so, you’ll benefit from all we have to offer – and there’s plenty.
Further your education and self-development by attending any or all of the PMA Workshops. The PMA ILM Excellence in Practice Management certificate is awarded to an individual on completion of any 6 PMA Workshops and subject to an ILM registration fee. This is a recognised and prestigious achievement for practice managers and other general practice staff. All the information you need is available on each individual workshop page.
If you’d like to aim higher, you can opt for our PMA ILM Level 3 and Level 5 Diplomas in Leadership and Management for Assistant Practice Managers and Practice Managers respectively. We have recently launched the PMA Medical Administrator/GP Assistant – City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration and PMA ILM Level 7 Diploma in Leadership & Management. We have also just launched PMA City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma for Healthcare Support Workers, PMA City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma for Senior Healthcare Support Workers and PMA City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma for Customer Service Specialists. See the Education page on our website for more information. Dental practice managers have the option of a PMA ILM Level 4 Diploma in Dental Practice Management.
We also run bespoke workshops for NHS organisations such as CCGs, HBs, Federations, LMCs and CEPNs. This is an excellent way to ensure consistency across practices. The PMA run a series of workshops and other events for practice managers and other primary care staff, both non-clinical and clinical, across the UK. We are looking for additional people who have experience of the sector to help deliver them. The number of workshops and events we’re involved with are now increasing so we hope to hire those with excellent interpersonal skills and with a good understanding of the primary care landscape and environment.
You will be responsible for meeting and greeting delegates on arrival (typically 20-30 in a workshop), welcoming the workshop facilitator, introducing the session, ensuring the day goes according to plan, collecting feedback forms from delegates and representing the PMA and our interests (you will be trained to do this).
