What the learners say
The learners surveyed and interviewed were very positive about the amount of flexibility and support provided by PMA/ trainers and how teaching, learning and assessment could be fitted into their working patterns.
Evidence from a learner’s reflective journal illustrates the depth of learning that had taken place, with links to key policies and procedures, and how, through reflection, it related to the understanding of leadership, styles of leadership and the impact this had in the workplace. Over half of the learners surveyed acknowledged how their training was already having a positive impact on their work performance. ‘It has given me the confidence to try and interact and encourage staff in different ways.’ As one PMA trainer stated ‘‘The aim is to be sector specific, enhance the learner’s ability to impact on their staff and therefore the service they provide.’. The training PMA deliver is improving practice manager performance, which ultimately impacts positively on the patient experience.
PMA, as an organisation, are very thorough in making sure that assessors are fully trained, qualified, experienced and competent in delivering secure judgements on learning outcomes. All trainers have ownership are engaged in quality improvement and not just as passive participants in the regular and timetabled standardisation and development meeting. When interviewed trainers also reported how they also prepared learners for the EPA interview. trainers have ownership and are engaged in quality improvement and not just as passive participants in the regular and timetabled standardisation and development meeting.
