The PMA was formed as a membership body to give those involved in practice management throughout the UK the opportunity to access a wide range of resources such as training, professional advice, educational events, conferences and peer networking.

The PMA seeks to encourage the sharing of knowledge and to offer the opportunity for its members to attain the highest standards possible within their role and job function. Membership is open to all those involved or associated with the management of GP’s medical practices. There is no cost to join the PMA and you can download an application form for membership from this site.

The Business of General Practice – Business Workshops for General Practitioners & Practice Managers

The PMA Excellence in Practice Management Programme comprises a series of full day workshops specifically focussed on the ‘business’ aspects of General Practice. The series is aimed at GPs and practice managers and is delivered by specialists in medical business practice.

The full programme covers all aspects of practice management: how to read practice accounts; taxation; partnership issues; staff employment liabilities and management; and frameworks for decision-making and negotiating. It also includes: an update on superannuation; tax; and Federations as well as practical tips on improving profitability. It focuses on risk management, governance and mitigation strategies, on dispute management, conflict mediation and medical negligence, and also covers property management, ownership and leasing and the latest module focuses on stress management

Each module is equivalent to 6 CDP points and for those GPs and Practice Managers who complete 6 of the modules, they will be recognised for Excellence in Practice Management.

The programme content aims and objectives have been quality assured by ILM and as a result the programme is recognised by ILM and participants will receive an ILM attendance certificate on completion.

Participants registered with ILM can access free studying membership of the Institute of Leadership and Management. Members can enhance their learning with a range of online resources, professional development guidance, information and events to help them get the best from their programme.
