Project Description

This e-learning programme provides a comprehensive overview of the core knowledge and key components required to take responsibility for the effective maintenance of primary care finance systems within a practice or group of practices.

It will provide a baseline for anyone in an administrative or management role within primary care who already has limited involvement with finance and accountancy management and wants to expand their knowledge in order to extend their responsibilities.

In this updated version, our team of researchers has summarised the latest information affecting General Practice finance, ensuring you are up-to-date with all the changes and signposting you to the most recent publications affecting your practice.

The updates include:

  • The impact of Covid-19 on finances
  • NEW statistics and analysis of the General Practice Workforce
  • Changes to the Statement of Financial Entitlements released in October 2020
  • Amendments to the Network Contract DES released in September 2020 explained
  • Updates to the GP contract agreement

This programme consists of 8 modules. It is estimated that each module will take 1-2 hours to complete. The modules are:

  1. Understanding Finance in Primary Care
  2. Format of Accounts
  3. Internal Controls
  4. Income
  5. Controlling Expenditure
  6. Payroll and Pensions
  7. Budgeting
  8. Other Practice Finance Considerations

This is a flexible, online programme ideal for Level 3 and above. Level 2 in numeracy and basic IT skills are recommended.

A range of formats and learning methods will be included including case studies, interactive exercises and worksheets and knowledge checks.
